W204
2007 - 2014A 12V car throughout. On petrol models the main battery is under the bonnet on the passenger side, and cars with ECO start/stop add a small battery for that system in the boot.
Mercedes-Benz - C-ClassWe come to your C200, test its 12V battery free and, on a mild hybrid, check the 48V side too, then fit a replacement matched to the one it carries. On the W206 the 12V AGM sits in the boot and a 48V lithium-ion battery sits under the bonnet, so the technician knows where to look before arriving.
The name stayed the same, the electrical system did not. Find the years your car was built in and the differences that matter.
A 12V car throughout. On petrol models the main battery is under the bonnet on the passenger side, and cars with ECO start/stop add a small battery for that system in the boot.
Main battery at the rear of the engine bay on the passenger side. Later cars can carry a 48V system as well, with a further battery position under the boot floor.
A mild hybrid on every C200: a 48V lithium-ion battery under the bonnet and the 12V AGM in the boot, each doing a different job.

On a W206 C200, the 2023 C-Class owner's manual describes a car that will not start because the 48V battery's charge has dropped too low. The fix it gives is not a new part: a charger on the 12V jump-start point lets the car refill the 48V battery through its own voltage converter.
Once the car is switched on again, the display reports that the 48V battery is charging, and starting is possible after a few minutes. We use that routine and a free 12V test before anyone talks about replacing a battery.
The same manual says the 48V battery is not to be opened, disconnected or removed outside a qualified workshop. Our work on a C200 is the 12V battery and the charge that feeds the 48V side.

W205 or W206 decides whether the 12V is under the bonnet or in the boot, and whether a 48V battery is in the car at all.
Tested where the car stands, because a low 48V battery is recharged through the 12V supply.
Cannot Start Vehicle, a 48V charging notice and the 12V charge warnings each point to a different fix.
The manual allows an AGM or a lithium-ion 12V, so the replacement follows the technology printed on the fitted one.

Cannot Start Vehicle on a W206 that started the day before
A prompt to switch the car on to charge the 12V battery after it has stood
12 V On-board Electrical System Service Required on the display
Slow, laboured cranking on a W204 or W205
A car used almost entirely for short runs across town
A battery whose age nobody can confirm

The 2023 C-Class owner's manual warns that a 12V battery used only for short trips may never be fully charged, and that this shortens its life. Its advice is to drive longer distances regularly.
For a C200 that runs from home to office and back, a free test at either end of the commute shows how much charge the battery is really holding, before a cold start in the car park finds out for you.
Every W206 C200 does: a lithium-ion 48V battery under the bonnet working alongside a 12V AGM in the boot. Some later W205 cars carry a 48V system as well, while the W204 is a 12V car only. We confirm which yours is on the phone before the technician sets off.
In the boot, under a cover, while the 48V lithium-ion battery sits under the bonnet. Jump leads and chargers still go on the jump-start connection point in the engine compartment, which is the point the 2023 C-Class owner's manual names for both jobs.
Not necessarily. On a 48V car the manual links that message to a low 48V charge and has the car refill it from a charger on the 12V jump-start point. We test the 12V first and only quote for a new battery if the test shows it has failed.
A 12V AGM on most cars, the technology the 2023 C-Class owner's manual names alongside lithium-ion. We read the label on the fitted battery and bring one that matches its size, terminals and technology, from AED 175 fitted and covered by our 1-year warranty.
The 48V lithium-ion battery is a workshop part: the manual says not to disconnect, remove or open it. What we handle on site is the 12V battery that feeds it, and the free test shows which of the two the fault sits with before you spend anything.
They can wear it out sooner. The 2023 C-Class owner's manual warns that a 12V battery used only for short trips may not be sufficiently charged, which reduces its life, and suggests regular longer drives. A free test at your home or office shows how much charge it holds.
