W205 (as C450)
2016Listed in the 2016 C-Class owner's manual as the C 450 AMG 4MATIC. Same W205 body and battery position as the C43 that followed.
Mercedes-AMG - C-ClassWe test and replace the battery on both C43 generations where the car is parked. The W205 C43 keeps its main battery at the back of the engine bay, while the W206 C43 splits the work between a 12V AGM in the boot and a 48V lithium-ion battery under the bonnet. Tell us the year and we come prepared for the right one.
The name stayed the same, the electrical system did not. Find the years your car was built in and the differences that matter.
Listed in the 2016 C-Class owner's manual as the C 450 AMG 4MATIC. Same W205 body and battery position as the C43 that followed.
The C43 name arrives with the 2017 model year. The main battery stays in the engine bay on the passenger side, as on every W205 saloon.
A 48V car: lithium-ion 48V battery under the bonnet, 12V AGM in the boot. Battery data for the earlier C43 does not carry over.

A C43 built before 2022 is a W205, and its main battery sits in the engine bay. A C43 from 2022 is a W206: the 12V battery has moved to the boot and a 48V lithium-ion battery sits under the bonnet.
That is why the first question on the phone is the year. It decides where the technician looks, which battery comes on the van and whether the 48V side needs checking too.

The car has stood for weeks between weekend drives
Cranking that drags after a day parked in the sun
A 12V charge warning on the display of a W206
An Auxiliary Battery Malfunction message
More than one jump-start in a short spell
A battery that came with the car when you bought it second-hand

W205 or W206 decides where the battery is and which replacement travels with the technician.
The fitted battery is tested where it sits, and the display messages are read before anything is quoted.
Same technology as the label, AGM or lithium-ion, fitted with its vent hose and covers in place.
The engine is started and the display checked for warnings before the car is handed back.

A C43 kept for weekends spends long stretches standing still, and that is hard on a 12V battery. The 2023 C-Class owner's manual warns that a car left for more than six weeks can be damaged by disuse, and that heavy discharge can impair or damage the 12V battery.
Where the car offers it, standby mode keeps the drain down while it stands. Otherwise a charger approved for the car helps, and a free test before the next drive shows whether the battery is still up to the job.
On a W205 C43, built up to 2021, the main battery is in the engine bay on the passenger side. On the W206 C43 from 2022, the 12V AGM is in the boot and a 48V lithium-ion battery is under the bonnet. Give us the year and we come ready for the right one.
For the W205 years, it is the same car in battery terms. The 2016 C-Class owner's manual lists a C 450 AMG 4MATIC, and the C43 took that place in the range from the 2017 model year on the same W205 body, so battery checks for one apply to the other.
No. The W206 C43 is a 48V car with its 12V AGM in the boot, while the W205 C43 keeps its main battery in the engine bay. Battery data for one does not carry over to the other, so we confirm the generation before the technician sets off.
Not with the same settings. The 2016 C-Class owner's manual caps chargers at 14.4V for cars with a lithium-ion battery and 14.8V for the others. We read the fitted battery's label before any charger or replacement goes near it, and a matching AGM starts from AED 175 fitted.
It can. The 2023 C-Class owner's manual warns that a car parked for more than six weeks may be damaged by disuse and that heavy discharge harms the 12V battery. Standby mode, where fitted, or an approved charger helps, and a free test shows how much charge it still holds.
It can be either, which is why we test rather than guess. A low 48V charge can stop the car starting, and the car refills it from the 12V side once a charger or jump supply is connected at the front. If the 12V fails its test, we replace it on the spot with our 1-year warranty.
