W214 E200 Messages That Point to a Battery
The 2024 E-Class manual names these display messages. Each one tells us where to start.
- Switch On Vehicle to Charge the 12 V BatteryThe warning for a parked E200 whose 12V battery has run low. The manual's answer is 30 to 60 minutes of driving or a charge; a battery that keeps needing it is tested and replaced.
- Please Wait Charging 48 V BatteryAppears when the car is switched on during a jump or a charge with the 48V battery flat. The car refills it through its voltage converter and shows Starting Possible Again after a few minutes.
- Auxiliary Battery Malfunction on a W214Until it is repaired, the manual asks for P to be selected by hand before switching off and the electric parking brake to be applied before leaving the car.
- 48 V Battery See Operator's ManualSignals restrictions in the 48V system, with comfort functions such as climate control possibly limited. Driving on is allowed; if the message stays, the 48V side needs a specialist check.

How a New 12V Battery Goes Into an E200

Mercedes moved it twice. A four-cylinder W212 built from 2009 to 2012 keeps it in the engine bay. The W213 and W214 keep the 12V battery in the boot, with a second battery under the bonnet, which is the 48V lithium-ion unit on the W214. Tell us the year and we confirm it.
Yes. Mercedes' rescue sheet for the E 200 Sedan from 2023 shows a 48V lithium-ion battery in the engine compartment and a 12V AGM in the boot. The 48V system switches off ten seconds after the 12V battery is disconnected, and the 12V AGM is the one we replace at your car.
The 2024 E-Class manual shows it when the car is switched on during a jump start or a charge while the 48V battery is flat. The car recharges it through the voltage converter, then shows Starting Possible Again. If the car still will not start after that, our technician tests both batteries on the spot.
Get the auxiliary battery checked soon. The 2024 E-Class manual says that, in the meantime, P should be engaged by hand each time the car is switched off, with the electric parking brake set whenever you walk away. Our technician then tests the batteries where the car is parked.
