The W211 Battery Hides in Two Places
On a W211 the main battery sits in the boot, and its exact spot depends on whether the car was built with a spare wheel. Cars built up to the end of May 2006 also carry an additional battery under the bonnet on the passenger side.
On an early car both are tested on their own. A healthy main battery does nothing for a failed additional one, so only the unit that fails the test is replaced.

- W212 ECO Start/StopThe 2014 manual lists a sufficiently charged battery among the conditions for ECO start/stop to switch the engine off at a standstill.
- W212 Charging RouteThe same manual allows charging only through the jump-starting connection point in the engine compartment, with a charger capped at 14.8V.
