Two Batteries on the X254, and Which One We Change
On the X254 the 12V AGM battery is in the boot and the 48V lithium-ion battery is under the bonnet. The 2024 GLC manual leaves 48V battery work to a qualified specialist workshop and tells owners not to remove that battery.
The 12V battery is what we test and replace. When the 48V charge runs too low to start, the manual puts a charger on the 12V jump-start point. The 48V battery then refills through the car's voltage converter.

- Two Battery Types AllowedThe 2024 manual guarantees full vehicle function only with an AGM or lithium-ion battery that meets the GLC's requirements.
- Vent Hose on the Original OpeningThe vent hose has to stay connected to the original opening on the side of the battery, as the 2024 manual specifies.

On the X253, built from 2015 to 2022, the battery positions are under the bonnet and at the back of the load area. On the X254 from 2022, the 12V AGM is in the boot and a 48V lithium-ion battery sits under the bonnet. We confirm your generation from the VIN first.
Every X254 GLC300 does, in the engine compartment, alongside the 12V AGM in the boot. On the X253, cars built with the 48V system carry it under the bonnet. We test and replace the 12V battery, since the 2024 manual leaves 48V battery work to a specialist workshop.
The 2024 GLC manual says full vehicle function is only guaranteed with an AGM or lithium-ion battery that meets the car's requirements. A standard flooded battery is neither, so we match the AGM your GLC300 was built with, confirmed against the VIN and the fitted label.
The 2024 GLC manual lists it as a fault in the auxiliary battery. Until it is repaired, select P by hand before switching off and apply the electric parking brake before leaving the car. Mention the message when you book, alongside any starting trouble.
