The technology
SpiralCell: Wound, Not Stacked
Inside each of the six cylinders, two plates of 99.99% pure lead are wound into a tight spiral and held under compression. Locked plates cannot shed their active paste, which is where Optima's ratings come from: up to 15 times the vibration resistance of a conventional battery and up to three times the life.
The electrolyte sits in glass mats, so every Optima is a sealed AGM. It mounts in almost any position and never takes water.

Fitting an Optima the Right Way
Check the case and posts
Optima cases follow American BCI group sizes with SAE posts, so we check the tray, hold-down and cable reach before ordering.
Read the charge
A full RedTop reads above 12.8 V and a full YellowTop above 13.0 V. We read it before fitting, so a part-charged battery never goes in.
Check the alternator
Optima wants 13.8 to 15.0 V from the alternator, and above 15 V it can start to gas. We measure it before we leave.
Take the old one away
The old battery leaves with us for recycling.
