At the left-hand side of the rear luggage compartment. The UAE owner's handbook for the 2022 to 2025 Emira says to open the tailgate, release the thumb screws on the battery cover and lift it off. We work from the boot, so the car can stay in its bay at home or in a car park.
The handbook's technical data lists a 12-volt AGM battery rated 70Ah at C20 and 760 cold cranking amps to the EN standard, in a 278 x 175 x 190 mm case. Its replacement rule is the same size, cold starting capacity and type, which is the battery we quote for and fit.
The handbook allows it from another car with a 12V negative-earth system, through the positive jump-starting point and the negative battery post. It also warns that jump-starting can damage electronic controllers, and that such damage falls outside the vehicle warranty. We test first and tell you whether charging, a jump or a new battery suits.
Not always. The Emira handbook expects starting difficulties after about 18 days of rest, and a battery that has only run down may recover on charge. Our free test on site settles it, and a new battery is only sold when the old one can no longer hold its charge.
The Emira handbook recommends an authorised Lotus Retailer. Where someone else does the job, it asks them to switch off all loads, take the keyfob out of the cabin, wait 30 minutes after ignition off, remove the negative cable first and choose a unit matching the original's size, capacity and type. We follow each of those steps.
