XC40 Recharge: Looking After the 12 V Side
An electric Volvo still runs a 12 V battery. On the 2021 XC40 Recharge pure electric, it charges whenever the car charges, and from the high-voltage battery when the car is not plugged in.
Its jump points serve that car alone: Volvo warns that using them to start another vehicle can blow a fuse and leave the points dead. On these models, the 12 V battery is tested first in every Volvo battery replacement.
What Changes Once the Battery Is Reconnected
- Window pinch protectionOn the 2018 XC60, automatic opening and closing must be reset after the start battery is disconnected, or pinch protection will not work. Volvo's reset is three upward pulls on each closed window's switch.
- Charge messageIf a booster or charger is connected other than as Volvo describes, the driver display's start battery message can read wrongly for a while.
